I think this shot is a much better expression of what you were going for than the DD - the owl looks awake! This has more of the fairy tale feel, and the feet are distracting but of course I wouldn't expect her to hold claws like that on her bare skin. I like that she's cradling the owl comfortably and that you can see its eyes.

But I realize it's not your fault what gets picked as a DD. And am not really sure whether it's a professional photographer's rule to prefer to have an animal's eyes open. ^^' Both shots are very striking and I love the addition of the animal to a classic character. Nice work.
